Folgefonna Summer Ski Resort Closes

The Folgefonna Summer Ski Resort in Hardanger has permanently closed due to financial struggles and the impacts of climate change.

Known for offering unique summer skiing experiences on the Folgefonna glacier, the resort was a favourite among professional athletes and tourists. However, rising temperatures have led to shrinking glaciers and reduced snowfall, making operations increasingly difficult. The resort needed more support to sustain itself with high operational costs and declining visitor numbers. The closure marks a significant loss for Norway’s sports tourism and highlights climate change’s pressing challenges to winter sports and glacier preservation worldwide.
